Artist Carol Gentithes creative genius in action. Artist Carol Gentithes creative genius in action. A landscape between visual poetry and idealized reality. Gentithes contrast her own fascination of Cats with Japanese folklore . Kaibyo: The supernatural Cats of Japan The Author Nakamura Teiri in his book Dobutsutachi no Nihonshi describes a species of indigenous Japanese wildcat he called the monstrous yamaneko. As big as a Cougar little is known of these ancient creatures except that they existed as far back as the Jomon period 14,000-300 BCE. This vase is made from locally gathered clays from the North Carolina Piedmont. I fired it with a burnt rice hull ash glaze in the wood kiln . The glaze has an atmospheric dreamy quality which Artist Carol Gentithes has taken full advantage. We have great fun collaborating , knowing each other as long as we have there is sensibility we share. I am Looking forward to seeing this vase come out of the kiln I’ll keep you posted. #art #artist #artistsoninstagram #artofinstagram #ceramics #pottery #potter #wildclay #clay #mintmuseum #collection #carolgentithesceramics #fredjohnstonpottery #charlottenc #Raleigh #look #see #woodfiredceramics #seagrovepotters

Humans have a long history with the circle and dot Humans have a long history with the circle and dot symbol . It shows up across the globe in an array of different cultures . The meaning of the circle and dot varies for the Greeks it’s the Evil eye to ward off bad luck . A client once told me in Buddhism it’s the sign of the Stupa , and that everything outside the circle is profane and everything inside the circle is sacred and the dot represents how you should Center yourself in the sacred. You see it in African Art and Native American culture . The way I was inspired to use the circle and dot came by watching peacocks and guinea hens . I quite admired the pattern of their feathers . I began to think about how to paint the circle dot on pots . That was twenty years and I am still painting it. Long live the circle and dot. #art #potter #clay #ceramics #fredjohnstonpottery #artist #seagrovepotters #charlottenc #raleigh #Atlanta #jug #pottery
