My inspiration for this building was in part to Ca My inspiration for this building was in part to Carol Gentithes and her Greek heritage. I am a fan of the the Greek Revival Style . Spent several days working on the entrance of the studio and showroom preparing to paint , lots of details and work. It feels good to see fresh new paint shine . I studied the writings of Greek revival architect Asher Benjamin (1773-1845 ) . Proportions are everything. He wrote The Country Builders Assistant : containing a collection of new designs of carpentry and architecture published in 1797 . I looked at his layouts to create my version of entablature with Erechtheum capitals and Ionic columns . It’s been 9 years since I originally painted this structure. It was time for some tender loving care and new paint . The crown mold and details are made of mahogany milled in Star North Carolina. I read Samuel Mockbee’s book Rural Studio An Architecture of decency . So collecting used or discarded materials was a way to save and be creative. As a young person I work as a framing carpenter.
